What affects the price
A crown is a cap that covers a damaged or weakened tooth. It is made to fit, usually by a dental laboratory, and fitted over two or more appointments.
- The material: all-ceramic (such as zirconia or e.max), porcelain fused to metal, or metal. Practices often list a different price for each.
- Laboratory fees, which make up a large part of the cost of most crowns.
- Whether the tooth needs other work first, such as a filling to build it up or root canal treatment.
- Front or back tooth, because appearance matters more at the front.
Questions to ask before you book
- Which material is this price for?
- Does the price include the temporary crown and the lab fee?
- Is any work needed on the tooth before the crown, and is it included?
Whether a treatment is right for you, and what it will cost, can only be decided after a dentist has examined you. These prices are a starting point for comparing practices, not a quote.
