Root canal treatment "from" prices as published by each practice, lowest first. Price details are summarised from each practice's published price list. The price you pay depends on your assessment, so always confirm with the practice.

What affects the price

Root canal treatment removes infected or inflamed tissue from inside a tooth so the tooth can be kept rather than taken out. It usually takes two or more appointments.

  • Which tooth it is. Back teeth usually have more root canals than front teeth, and many practices charge more for them. Where a practice publishes separate prices, their own wording is shown in the list of lowest prices above.
  • Whether the tooth has had root canal treatment before. Re-treating a tooth is usually more involved.
  • Whether a general dentist or a specialist (endodontist) does the work. Specialist fees are usually higher.
  • A crown afterwards. Your dentist may recommend one to protect the tooth, especially a back tooth. It is charged separately.
  • X-rays and the initial consultation, which some practices charge for separately.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is the price for this specific tooth, and how many appointments does it include?
  • Are X-rays, a temporary filling and the final filling included?
  • Will I need a crown afterwards, and what will that cost?
  • What happens, and what do I pay, if the treatment needs to be redone?

Whether a treatment is right for you, and what it will cost, can only be decided after a dentist has examined you. These prices are a starting point for comparing practices, not a quote.
